There is a black non ferrous metal (does not stick to a magnet) plate used as a back cover to the cup. This is secured in place with a ferrous pin that is attached to the cast iron piece and bent to keep the plate in place. The piece is well cast and shows very nice details, such as the eyes, nose, mouth and horns. The piece retains most of original paint and is just great and unusual looking.
Please carefully view the photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Size: measures 4" at its widest, 6" from the bottom tip to the top tip, and is 1 1/8 at its deepest. The piece weighs almost 8 ounces.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Just a very nice and unusual antique match holder, which would make a great addition to your collection. Condition: In very good condition with no breaks, cracks, damage, or repair. The piece retains most of its original paint with some losses to the paint which can be seen in the photos. These losses are most pronounced on the tip of the nose and cheeks of the devil and to the edge of the black plate backing of the cup.
The piece also shows some minor signs of rust especially on the back. It also has some soiling throughout, which could probably benefit from a good cleaning, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner.
