Offered for sale is a wonderful antique primitive butter churn manufactured during the early 1900s. The butter churn has a square glass base with rounded corners and edges with a tin screw on lid onto which a cast iron crank mechanism is attached.
The glass base is embossed "I 56I " on the bottom, while the cast iron crank has two markings as shown; the number 80 on the mechanism and 80H on the reverse of the handle. I believe this is a DAZEY piece, but I do not see the DAZEY name anywhere on it.
Overall the churn stands about 13 1/4 tall and the base holds approximately 3 quarts. The overall condition of the butter churn is very nice. The glass base has no chips or cracks, but it doe have standard flakes and nicks to the interior of the rim and around the collar. There is wear to the base in the form of scratches and rubbing. The tin lid screws on tightly and I see no splits to the sides. The cast iron crank functions as it should spinning the wooden paddle wheel evenly. There is standard light metal wear and tarnishing from age.
The wooden paddle wheel has no breaks or splits, and it functions as it should. The handle retains its original wooden piece which is securely fastened. Overall this is a really nice piece that would accessorize any primitive or farmhouse kitchen well.
