Antique butter churn, made by Porter Blanchard's Sons, Concord, NH. Constructed of wood, painted yellow. Horizontal cylindrical body with square ends, four tapered rectangular legs with two horizontal dowels on each side & removable domed shape lid. Black stenciled decoration on all sides. Black stenciled lettering on one end reads.
No 3, The BLANCHARD CHURN. Made by Porter Blanchard's Sons, Concord N. On the lid reads: THE NEW BLANCHARD CHURN, No 3, Will churn up to 2 gallons. I have attempted to date this item and have not been able to come up with an exact time frame in terms of date of patent or manufacture.
This company manufactured several different models of butter churns, a No 4, a No 5, among others & from what I can discern from online research including the New Hampshire Historical Society, I believe this churn dates from the 1870's to 1880's. This churn is in very good, original condition, but is missing the crank handle.
